How to Ship Oversized Cargo from China to the USA

Published August 21, 2026 · 7 min read · By GSC International Freight

Oversized and project cargo shipping from China to USA

Oversized cargo — industrial machinery, large equipment, steel structures, and anything exceeding standard container dimensions — requires specialized planning, equipment, and often multiple transport modes from China to the USA. GSC picks up anywhere in China and delivers DDP to all US states.

When Is Cargo Considered Oversized?

Cargo is oversized (OOG — out of gauge) when it exceeds standard 20ft or 40ft container internal dimensions, or when weight exceeds container payload limits. Common examples: CNC machines, injection molding units, packaging lines, generators, and woodworking equipment.

Standard container limits: roughly 2.35m width, 2.39m height, and 12m length for a 40ft container. Anything beyond this needs flat rack, open top, or breakbulk shipping.

Shipping Options for OOG Cargo

GSC also handles machinery and parts shipping with custom crating and pre-shipment inspection at our Guangzhou warehouse.

Pickup Anywhere in China

We are based in Guangzhou but arrange domestic trucking from factories in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Fujian, and other provinces. Cargo can consolidate at our warehouse or export via Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ningbo, or Qingdao.

Out of Scope

GSC does not arrange freight for whole buses or coaches, whole ships or vessels, or super-heavy mining equipment (e.g. large mine trucks). Contact us for typical industrial machinery within container / flat-rack limits.

Planning Checklist

Start planning 4–6 weeks before needed delivery. Oversized bookings require carrier approval and limited vessel space.
